Manly is one of Sydney’s most popular seaside destinations. Full of attractions and exciting activities including Manly Beach, Oceanworld, kayaking, swimming, tennis, golf, beach volleyball, roller blading, scenic and historical walks, art, parasailing, scuba diving, fishing, dining and so much more. Manly is the perfect destination
Situated seven miles north-east of Sydney on the lower Northern Beaches, Manly was named by Captain Arthur Phillip after his encounter with the confident and manly Aboriginal people of the Kay-ye-my clan who lived here. Surrounded on three sides by water, Manly is the perfect destination to enjoy both the harbour and the 18 ocean beaches, coves and inlets to swim, sail and surf. But as the locals know, Manly is more than Sydney's premier beach resort. Come by sea or road and take some time to discover its rich heritage and culture, its great shopping, dining and family attractions - it's well worth the trip.
Celebrated as Australia’s first resort destination, see indigenous rock art and engravings along North Head or more modern historical landmarks like Manly’s Quarantine Station first used in the 1830’s. Explore Australia’s military and maritime history at the Former School of Artillery at North Head, walk the path of Olympians for 100 years of Manly champions or stroll the famous Corso built in 1855 as a link between Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean.
Travel – Transport Manly is highly accessible by public transport from the commercial centre of Sydney. The famous ‘Manly Ferries’ are part of Australia’s social history:- no visit to Sydney is complete without a return journey across spectacular Port Jackson harbour on a ferry from Pier 3 Circular Quay lasting 30 minutes. Also departing from Circular Quay is the high-speed JetCat from Pier 2, taking only 15 minutes to reach Manly. Bus travel or private vehicle from the Sydney commercial business district across the Harbour Bridge is an enjoyable alternative. The Manly Airport Bus provides an economical way to and from both the domestic and international Sydney airport terminals
